Two Lions Get Collars

February 11, 2014

A four-year-old lion and a 3.6-year-old lioness were today fitted with GPS/GSM enabled collars.

The GPS transmitters make it possible for us to track the animals and as a result discover their movement and activity pattern, preferred habitat, migration routes and other behaviour.

This is part of the wider predator research programme being conducted by Lewa to help establish the behaviour pattern of lions, particularly in relation to the endangered Grevy's zebra.
