At last years Safaricom Marathon the British High Commission kindly donated a prize to the first two boys and girls, in the Fun Run for kids, to travel to London in early 2006.
The prize included a trip to the 2006 Flora London Marathon and a three-day stay hosted by a UK school athletic club for the top two eligible finishing boys and girls in the Lewa Fun-Run. The trip will be all-expenses-paid.
On the 20th December 2005 Arnold Rapango, who is in charge of the Adult literacy Programme here on Lewa, traveled to Nairobi with all the kids and their parents for a reception at the British High Commission. Basically this reception was in honor of the four children who had excelled in the Lewa Marathon. The BHC had invited Paul Tergat, the New York Marathon champion, to present the prize to these children. Other local sporting groups that have worked with the BHC were also present. Mr. Tergat took that opportunity to confirm his participation in this year's London Marathon. The children together with their parents were briefed about their trip to London. They were also given an opportunity to ask questions concerning their stay and accommodation. The date for the trip was confirmed to be 21st April 2006. The children will participate in the mini-marathon that will be held before the main event. While in London they will also have a chance to train with an athletic club. Arnold will take the children to Nairobi on 19th April so that they are ready for their flight to London the following day in the morning.
The names of the children are; 1. Solinte Kortol from Leparua Primary School 2. Simeon Lukwawi from Lewa Primary School 3. Charity Wandia from Lewa Primary School 4. Sikinan Maiyani from Ethi Primary School
