Elephant Calf Rescue
Last week on Thursday, our resident Kenya Wildlife Service Vet Dr. Matthew Mutinda received a call from the neighbouring Marania Farm - an abandoned elephant calf had strayed into their property from the adjoining elephant corridor.
To ensure the safety and survival of the calf, a team from Lewa, Kenya Wildlife Service, Mount Kenya Trust and Marania moved the young feisty elephant from the farm to Lewa's airstrip. He was then airlifted to The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust's orphanage. The calf was most likely orphaned after its mother was killed by poachers.
The young chap arrived safely and is reported to be doing great. May he live a long life!
