To purchase one hand-held radio plus spare battery for rhino identification. Rhino monitoring teams are responsible for the daily identification of individual rhino reporting on their location, numbers and status. We need to replace ten this year.

Tracker dog Handling Costs:
Lewa has three highly trained tracker dogs; they are very useful in augmenting the anti-poaching efforts of the armed teams. They are called upon whenever there is a security incident to follow up and have had a very successful track record of follow ups.

To purchase night vision goggles for Lewa armed team night follow up capability. With these the Lewa armed teams are in a better position to make night time follow ups to poaching incidents thus strengthening our ability to combat rhino poaching in the night.

Rhino Surveillance Field Team:
This covers the operation costs for one rhino surveillance team. The monitoring teams comprise of 2 to 3 men and through the daily patrol of the conservancy act as the first line of defense to any serious poaching threats.

This covers the costs of ensuring the proper management and sustainable utilization of water by communities from the springs surrounding Lewa. This caters for effective water distribution for agriculture, domestic, and livestock use.

Pays for the annual salary of one nurse:
This will cater for the salary of one nurse for a year, Lewa has employed 4 skilled nurses to cater for its three health clinics. They all play an important role in ensuring that quality health care services are offered to all patients.

Support for the Women’s Micro-Credit Programme Revolving Fund:
The programme provides women with loans which allow them to initiate micro-enterprises to enhance their livelihoods and improve socio-economic activities. The programme plays a crucial part in the fight against poverty and in empowering rural women within the seven communities surrounding Lewa.

Purchase clinic drugs and equipment for a year:
Lewa runs three health clinics for the communities surrounding the Conservancy, providing care at subsided rates. The clinics offer health care, immunizations, HIV/AIDS information, nutritional support, laboratory testing, plus the services of 4 nurses, an ambulance, and a visiting physician from the local hospital.

Feeding Programme:
This covers the cost of feeding one child for a year, Lewa has implemented a feeding programme where school children are provided with two meals per day and this has not only seen an increase in school enrolment but performance in class has greatly improved.

Support to an orphan:
This covers the school fees and supplies for one orphan student for a year. The Lewa Education Programme supports 13 schools surrounding the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, providing local children with education opportunities, and building awareness of wildlife conservation and its direct benefits.

Pays a one year high school scholarship:
This covers the cost of educating one child through high school for one year. Majority of the children from our neighbouring communities come from very poor families and are therefore not able to continue with their education due to lack of school fees.

This covers the cost of paying a teacher’s salary for a year. With the increase in school enrolment, it is vital to employ more teachers to ensure that the quality of education provided to the students is not compromised.

Builds a classroom:
This covers the cost of building a classroom. The government does not provide any funding to the schools to construct new classrooms and it is the responsibility of the schools community to cater for this. Lewa assists its surrounding communities in classroom construction to cater for the ever increasing enrollment in the schools.
