25 Years of Running Wild: A Legacy of Conservation and Community Empowerment

Beyond the thrill of the finish line, the Lewa Safari Marathon stands as a powerful engine for change, transforming lives and landscapes with every step taken. Over the past 25 years, this iconic event has raised funds that directly translate into tangible impact across conservation and community development. Funds generated from the event have been used in protecting endangered species like the black rhino and Grevy’s zebra and preserving important ecosystems through anti-poaching, habitat management, and wildlife monitoring.

Together, we run wild for wildlife, communities, and a better tomorrow.

Speaking on the significance of the event, Mike Watson, CEO of Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, stated that “This 25th anniversary is more than a milestone; it is a powerful demonstration of what can be achieved through sustained collective action. For a quarter of a century, the Lewa Safari Marathon has united individuals, communities, and organisations around a shared vision for conservation and community development. The legacy we honour today is not only reflected in funds raised or kilometres run, but in thriving wildlife populations, empowered communities, and the enduring belief that together, we can shape a more sustainable future for both people and wildlife.”

As the Lewa Safari Marathon celebrates this significant milestone, it looks forward to many more years of impacting wildlife, communities, and the heart of Kenya.
