On October 16, 2024, the Lewa Sustainable Agriculture Programme hosted a vibrant agricultural exhibition at Munanda Primary School in Meru County, Eastern Kenya. Over 30 industry stakeholders participated, showcasing innovative climate-smart technologies and sustainable practices to hundreds of farmers.
Farmers received comprehensive training on various topics, including conservation agriculture, soil health management, hybrid and drought-tolerant seeds, integrated pest management, forestry, and agroforestry. They were also educated on nutritious fodder, fodder conservation techniques, animal health management, renewable energy solutions, market linkages, and post-harvest handling practices.

Speaking at the event, Lewa’s Chief Programmes and Partnerships Officer (CPPO) John Kinoti emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts in building sustainable food systems. “We must work together now more than ever to create food systems that nourish everyone while preserving the resources we all depend on, such as water. We are committed to supporting all the farmers surrounding our conservancy,” he stated.

Echoing this commitment, Lawrence Mutuma, Lewa’s Head of Community Programme, shared, “As part of the commemoration, Lewa is engaging in a series of events and campaigns to raise awareness and mobilize support for the communities. Collaborating with local farmers, schools, and non-profits is essential to ensure that communities have the resources to produce food sustainably and manage water effectively.”

Lewa’s dedication to fostering sustainable agricultural practices continues to be a driving force in supporting local communities. Through our partnerships and initiatives, the conservancy is making strides in building resilient food systems and combating climate change challenges.
