The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (LWC) is thrilled to announce that the 23rd ‘Lewa Safari Marathon’ will return as an in-person event this year. For the last two years, the marathon has been held virtually. LWC has now resumed normal operations and is encouraged by the prospect of a new beginning in the aftermath of COVID-19’s global implications.

The marathon will take place at the LWC on June 25, 2022. As is customary, this one-of-a-kind experience will weave sport, nature, and community development into a wonderful event that will be worthwhile for everyone in attendance.

LWC is pleased to announce Safaricom and Huawei Limited as the key sponsors in this year’s event. The full marathon will be a 42-kilometre walk, with the option of a 21-kilometre walk or a 5-kilometre walk for children.

To date, over 800 Million Kenya Shillings has been raised through the marathon. All revenues generated continue to benefit conservation and livelihood programmes in communities surrounding Lewa and across Kenya. From saving Kenya’s Black Rhino population from extinction, to protecting the world’s critically endangered Grevy’s Zebra, to providing healthcare, clean water, and improved infrastructure for communities, to funding LWC education programmes, the funds raised by this marathon are invaluable to thousands across the country.

Together with Tusk Trust, LWC will co-organise this year’s marathon. Official registration for international runners is open, while registration for Kenyan runners will open on the 23rd of  March 2022.

We welcome and encourage as many people as possible to join us in this truly spectacular event as we run wild with nature and raise money for conservation and communities around Kenya.
