On the 27th of June, over 1300 participants from all over the world ran in the VirtualLewaSafariMarathon.
As a result of the COVID19 pandemic, this year’s Lewa Safari Marathon annually organised by Lewa and Tusk Trust was cancelled and rather than lose the opportunity to raise much needed funds, a virtual marathon was hosted.
Supported by Huawei and Safaricom, the 2020 virtual marathon was truly a global one with over 70 cities represented across 20 countries around the world.
The event, which in previous years has raised an annual Ksh.50,000,000 (USD500,000) for a range of conservation, community development and education projects across Kenya, benefits thousands.
Over the last two decades, the Lewa marathon has drawn thousands of participants from all over the world and has a reputation within the athletic community of being a sheer test of endurance and perseverance as competitors’ race across one of the toughest terrains in the world.
